Rimmel Stay Matte €7.99
For a mattifying primer - this is quite creamy and emollient in terms of texture, and it just looks like a normal white cream, similar to Clarins Beauty Flash Balm. It feels a touch hydrating but when you rub it in, it does dry to a slightly matte finish. Nothing too dry or unworkable, mind - just a satisfyingly smooth, demi-matte skin, which makes the perfect canvas for any foundation.
For €7.99 this is a brilliant product, and one that I will most likely buy again when it runs out. I like it a lot more than many high-end primers, including the much-loved Smashbox Photofinish - how's that for a statement!
I really like W7 as a brand as their products are generally good quality and very affordable. Porefection Pore Minimiser which is described as being a smoothing primer that reduces the appearance of pores as well as keeping your makeup in place all day long. The Porefection Pore Minimiser has a very similar consistency to the Benefit POREfessional Primer in that it is silicone based so it feels very silky upon the skin and it also looks similar too with the same peachy beige tone. I didn't notice a huge difference in my pores, but I do like how soft and even the Porefection primer leaves my skin as a base for my makeup, and it helps my foundation to apply a little easier.
Nyc Primer - NYC New York Color Smooth Skin Perfecting Primer €3.45
I'm a longtime fan of NYC, NYC Smooth Skin Perfecting Primer does state that it is suitable for all skin types, but with its consitency I feel its more suited for normal-dry skin types. The primer is white but it blends away to a transparent finish with a lovely shimmer. It is great for those with dull skin, not to mention it evens out the skin tone and helps blur out imperfections such as fine lines and pores. The beauty of this primer is it can be used in several ways including a base, a liquid highlighting product or wore alone as a light moisturiser with a subtle radiant finish.
Catrice Primer - Catrice Prime & Fine Smoothing Refiner €5.49
CATRICE presents Prime and Fine – the range of professional products for an excellent foundation. Ideal preparation: the Smoothing Refiner. The oil-free silicone-based primer practically makes pores disappear and fills out wrinkles for a smooth, refined complexion. What's best about this primer is that it gives a smoothness to the skin which helps foundation blend flawlessly so I believe it does a good job creating a smooth canvas for foundation application. Also it doesn’t make my T-zone shine more than I do without it.
Overall, this is a good primer if you want your foundation to look natural and blended. It reduces the appearance of pores and makes foundation stay put. But if you expect it to make you pore less, that isn't gonna happen.
NIVEA® Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer Normal & Combination Skin 50ml €3.24
The Nivea primer feels just like a light day cream - lighter than Nivea original cream, more like the Pure & Naturals/Essentials day cream. Lovely and refreshing for my normal/oily skintype but probably not heavy duty enough to use alone on dry skin.I absolutely love this and would definitely buy it again! It smells lovely and it's a bargain for 3.24 at half price, especially if you use it as your day cream as well! It's perfect for anyone who uses powder foundation, I'm so glad I tried it.
The primer has a gel-like consistency, a bit like if you were to mix your moisturiser with a normal primer. It’s light and fresh, with Nivea’s usual cucumber-y scent. It really slides onto the skin with ease and it does dry very fast. It’s my product of choice in the mornings because it sinks in so quickly (I’d say in less than a minute) and leaves the skin smooth and really soft. If it’s just for a daytime look, I’ll use this one product instead of a separate moisturiser and primer, perfect for when you’re doing a bit of a rushed job. It leaves a perfect base for foundation and keeps everything in place for most of the day. On days when I really can’t be bothered, I use Nivea Hydration Primer on its own as it helps me feel and look a little more polished.
Nivea Daily Essentials Express Hydration Primer is definitely something to have on your makeup shelf, especially as it’s so cheap. I always think of good skincare when I think of Nivea, and it has been a joy to use. It’s one of the things I often recommend to friends and genuinely don’t see pricey primers as being much better.
