I am so excited to bring you today's Sunday Snippet featuring Ciara from Food Fashion and the Fight. I only recently got to know Ciara through one of the blogger groups I am part of. I am really happy to bring you Ciara's story and interview. Ciara was diagnosed with breast cancer back in January, as you all know Cancer is a subject which is very close to my heart as I myself have Non Hodgkins Lymphoma so it is great to see someone else wh has been diagnosed detailing their journey. Ciara's blog features food, fashion and her fight. She is aiming to raise cancer awareness in people. So i urge you all to read Ciara's interview and then like all her social media links to keep up to date on all her posts.
1. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My
name is Ciara Brickley and I am a 33 year old women living in Cork
City. I am the eldest of 3 children and have 2 amazing younger brothers -
we are a tight nit crew :) I studied Food Science in UCC and graduated
with a PhD in Food Chemistry. I absolutely love working in the food
industry, it so dynamic and never boring! I have been lucky enough to
have lived in the US for a number of years both going to college there
and also working in the big bad world. I was diagnosed with breast
cancer in January 2015 - it has turned my world upside down but I
consider myself very lucky to have the amazing support of my medical
team, family and friends. I am a dog lover and currently I am the proud
mum of Lucy who I adopted from a rescue centre 4 years ago. I am a
girlie girl and love fashion (coats being my Achilles heal) and make up.
2. How did you get into blogging and why?
I
have always been an avid blog reader and fan. Over the years I have
considered starting my own blog but it really was my breast cancer
diagnosis that motivated me to take the step. My goal has been to raise
cancer awareness amongst my peers and highlight the need for us all to
be body aware. I am so happy that my blog has given my a forum to talk
openly about this subject. Like I said I am a girlie girl and also love
to talk about fashion, make up and food with like minded people :)
3. What do you do when you aren’t working on your blog?
Well
I have always been a bit of a workaholic so in an alternate universe I
would be working, heading to the gym and spending as much time as
possible with friends and family. Oh and of course a few hours
strolling through the shops too! My reality is slightly different at
the moment though so spending most of my time recuperating with my
family and friends for company. Never fear though thank god for internet
shopping available all hours of the day to keep me occupied :)
4. Are you a full time blogger? How did you get into blogging and why?
Not
a full time blogger. I work in the food industry focused in particular
on the dairy and culinary sectors. I have only been blogging for the
last 7 weeks and have been absolutely loving it! Who knows what the
future holds :)
I
was encouraged by my family and friends to start my blog. I did my
research on line to figure all the pieces about the website and domain
name etc - there is great info online that is pretty easy to follow. One
of my best friends works in PR & Communications (Shout out to
Hopkins Communications Cork) and she was fantastic helping me to
spruce up my blog and create the logo. Thanks to all who helped to get
this blog off the ground I really appreciate your support.
I
draw inspiration from my life and people around me. I want it to be
authentic and I think you only really get that when you are true to
yourself. I have been blogging a bit about my life as a young woman
living with cancer but also about my fashion, food and make up choices. I
am still learning what resonates most with my readers and have been
overwhelmed by the support I have received.
6. Name some of the bloggers whom you look up to and why?
The
blogger community has been absolutely fantastic - so welcoming and
supportive to me and other new bloggers. There is no competition at all
everyone is just there to cheer each other on. I have been a long time
reader of Suzanne Jackson (SoSueMe), Pippa O'Connor and Lauren of
LoveLauren. These ladies have been so successful as bloggers and have
paved the way for others to follow in their foot steps. I was also a big
fan of Lisa Lynch of the blog Alright Tit. Unfortunately Lisa lost her
battle with breast cancer but has left an amazing legacy in her blog
where she was honest, funny and had the most amazing perspective on
life.
7. Name the top blogs you read?
Alright TIt
SoSueMe
Pippa.ie
LoveLauren

The Beaut Mum

And many many more!! Like I said I am an avid blog reader :)
8.What makes you read the above blogs?
I am drawn to honesty and humour and these bloggers bring this in abundance
9. Tell us something we don't know about you?
Well I have never seen Breaking Bad, Love/Hate (in my defense was living in the US) or Game of Thrones. This tends to bring about a reaction of shock and disbelief from most people!
